In a geopolitical
landscape often dominated by Northern powers, the voice of the Global South is
becoming increasingly critical.
Today, all eyes are
turned toward Caracas, where political uncertainty and social unrest have
sparked global concern. But this time, the message isn't just coming from
Washington or Brussels it is coming from Addis Ababa.
The African Union (AU)
has broken its silence on the escalating situation in Venezuela, issuing a
powerful communiqué that emphasizes stability, sovereignty, and the sanctity of
human life.
As a continent that knows
intimately the struggles of democracy and the value of peaceful conflict
resolution, the AU's perspective brings a unique weight to the international
dialogue.
Below, we publish the full text of the African Union’s official statement, which calls for immediate restraint and an inclusive dialogue to steer the nation back toward peace.
Communiqué on the Situation in Venezuela
The African Union is
following with grave concern the recent developments in the Bolivarian Republic
of Venezuela, including reports of the abduction of the President of the
Republic, Mr. Nicolás Maduro, and military attacks on Venezuelan institutions.
The African Union
reaffirms its steadfast commitment to the fundamental principles of
international law, including respect for the sovereignty of States, their
territorial integrity, and the right of peoples to self-determination, as
enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations.
The African Union
underscores the importance of dialogue, peaceful settlement of disputes, and
respect for constitutional and institutional frameworks, in a spirit of good neighborliness,
cooperation, and peaceful coexistence among nations.
The African Union
emphasizes that the complex internal challenges facing Venezuela can only be
sustainably addressed through inclusive political dialogue among Venezuelans
themselves.
The African Union
expresses its solidarity with the Venezuelan people and reiterates its
commitment to the promotion of peace, stability, and mutual respect among
nations and regions.
The African Union calls upon all parties concerned to exercise restraint, responsibility, and respect for international law to prevent any escalation and to preserve regional peace and stability.

The KIGALI50 NEWS
validate that THE African Union’s statement serves as a potent reminder that
the crisis in Venezuela is not an isolated event, but a matter of global
humanitarian concern. By calling for dialogue over division and peace over
partisanship, the AU is advocating for the only viable path forward: one that
respects the will and safety of the Venezuelan people.
As the situation
develops, the international community must move beyond rhetoric and support
tangible frameworks for negotiation. The days ahead are critical. Whether the
political actors in Caracas heed this call for restraint remains to be seen,
but one thing is clear: Global South is watching, and it is demanding a
peaceful resolution.
